Much of my career involves the graphic below. If you know you know, but it's an "XY" that we use to record and analyze the behavior of dragline motions. The x-axis is DC loop current of a Ward Leonard Loop, and the y-axis is voltage output from the generators in the loop. Actual recordings tell you if the motion is too weak, too strong, or if something is broken. This one is a pretty decent etch-a-sketch.
